Price: $2,100,000

Neighbourhood: Ancaster

Features: Backing onto the treed parkland of Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is one of more than a dozen properties in Ancaster that are listed for more than $2 million.

Located on Reding Road, the custom-designed home boasts more than 3,400 square feet of living space as well as soaring ceilings, oversized windows and skylights, said salesperson Sarit Zalter with Re/Max Escarpment Realty Inc.

“It makes you feel like you’re surrounded by nature,” said Zalter. “The light just shoots into the house.”

The main floor of the home has a wood-burning fireplace, a floating staircase as well as a solarium-style sitting area. The European-style kitchen features a stainless steel island, a sub-zero wine cooler, high-end appliances and a hidden laundry machine.

The primary bedroom, located on the third floor, features vaulted ceilings, a skylight as well as a four-piece ensuite with a soaker tub. The second floor has another bedroom as well as a full bathroom.

Zalter said the design of the home, which features angular lines and floor-to-ceiling windows, is reminiscent of mid-century modern architecture — despite being built in the mid-1980s.

“It’s dramatic, unique and open concept,” she said.

Zalter said with a floating staircase connecting each floor and the bedrooms spaced out across the home, the property would likely not be ideal for a family with young children.

She did, however, note it could be a good fit for someone with an older parent or child living with them, as the lower level of the home features its own kitchen and washroom.

Why is it priced this way? Zalter said the price of the home was based on its location, proximity to amenities as well as its uniqueness and size. She noted that building lots in the area are selling for an average of $1.5 million.

“The price isn’t unrealistic,” said Zalter. “You can’t build this house for $700,000.”
