Dallas is known for plenty of things: the Cowboys, for instance, our award-winning skyline and that television show bearing the city’s name, to name a few. The city is also home to plenty of iconic home designs and its own recognizable design style.

Well, this 1972 home is a quintessential example of Dallas design. John Astin Perkins designed this home at 10852 Crooked Creek Court, near Royal Lane and Inwood Road, according to documents provided by the listing agent.

Erin Young Garrett of Allie Beth Allman & Associates said the home is full of original details and intentional design elements.

“Every detail is a thoughtful detail,” she said, making note of elements like the trellis design along interior walls in one room and the way the home is designed to bring in natural light without sacrificing privacy.

Historical records about Perkins, who was both an architect and an interior designer, reference him as the “decorator of choice” in Dallas.

This home has received additions and undergone a number of interior redesigns by different designers and architects. The most recent update was the addition of the “orangery.” It’s a living space off of the primary suite that was previously a porch.

An example of a truly Dallas design element is the custom wallpaper in the foyer — a gray-toned design made by de Gournay (a favorite textile in many Dallas homes, like in this decorator show house and this recent Dallas listing).

The home’s formal living room sits to the right of the front door and has abundant natural light, a fireplace and crown molding. The formal living room sits on the other side of the foyer and has easy access to a butler’s pantry, wet bar and half-bathroom.

The home has three bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half-bathroom in its 6,818 square feet. The primary suite and another bedroom are on the first level, and the third and final bedroom sit on the second level of the home.

The primary suite isn’t your typical setup of a bedroom and bathroom. This one has two full bathrooms, a coffee bar, a utility room and built-in closet storage. There’s also a private study accessible from the bathroom and the aforementioned “orangery,” a space designed as a living room with many large windows that overlook the property and trellis designs on the walls and ceiling. There is also an additional study or library on the other side of the bedroom suite.

The home’s main living room is two stories tall with a wall of windows on one side that look out onto the pool. At one end, an ornate staircase leads to the second level where the third bedroom and a game room sit.

The kitchen has two large islands and custom cabinets for storage. A den is adjacent to the kitchen in an open-concept design, and the space has a fireplace.

The home is on 0.75 acres and has a pool and a patio for entertaining. Garrett said that the home is set on an angle on the lot, ensuring that there is privacy and exclusivity and no one can look into the home or the backyard.

The home is on the market for $5,000,000. Lillie Young and Erin Young Garrett of Allie Beth Allman & Associates are marketing the property.
